The Mahua Processing Initiative has been started in the deep forest area of Kuchai, located in the Seraikella-Kharswan district of Jharkhand, aiming to create employment opportunities and income sources for the local rural and tribal communities. Mahua Processing: Jharkhand literally means’ land of forest’ where forest’ play a key role in the economic, cultural and social systems and the entire lives and livelihoods of a majority of the people revolve around forests and forestry particularly.

Madhuca longifolia, widely referred to as Mahua, is a tropical species predominantly located in the state of Jharkhand. Mahua holds a unique importance in the livelihoods of various tribal communities in several aspects. Besides fulfilling dietary and other necessities, it also serves as a key source of income during certain seasons. The tree holds both religious significance and aesthetic appeal within tribal traditions. In Jharkhand, Mahua contributes essential food items and income to local villagers, thus playing a crucial role in their livelihoods.
